Kaiju No. 8

Probably my current favorite manga on this list! My favorite character at the moment is definitely the main guy, Kafka Hibino, but all the characters are really good and super fun to learn about!

With the highest kaiju-emergence rates in the world, Japan is no stranger to attack by deadly monsters. Enter the Japan Defense Force, a military organization tasked with the neutralization of kaiju. Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-corpse cleanup man, has always dreamed of joining the force. But when he gets another shot at achieving his childhood dream, he undergoes an unexpected transformation. How can he fight kaiju now that he's become one himself?!

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun

The manga that started me on my manga-collecting journey...I actually watched the anime first, and was so in love with the world and the art style that I immediately started reading the manga! My favorite character is Tsuchigomori, the curator of the 4 PM Bookstacks!

At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school's Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third-floor girls' bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned.

Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom... but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined!

Kamome Academy's Hanako-san... is a boy!

Bungo Stray Dogs

I watched all 3 seasons and the Dead Apple movie back in March 2020, over the span of 3 days, so it's only natural I would end up picking up the manga. The characters and Abilities all being based around authors and their works is SUCH a cool idea, I love it a lot. I have multiple favorite characters here; Ranpo, Lovecraft, and Mark Twain!

Nakajima Atsushi was kicked out of his orphanage, and now he has no place to go and no food. While he is standing by a river, on the brink of starvation, he rescues a man who is whimsically attempting suicide. That man is Dazai Osamu, and he and his partner Kunikida are members of a very special detective agency.

They have supernatural powers and deal with cases that are too dangerous for the police or the military. They're tracking down a tiger that has appeared in the area recently, around the time Atsushi came to the area. The tiger seems to have a connection to Atsushi, and by the time the case is solved, it is clear that Atsushi's future will involve much more of Dazai and the rest of the detectives!

Spy x Family

When I heard that this was getting an anime, I was stoked. I had read a bit online, the anime just passed me in terms of where I was in my reading. I only recently started collecting the manga physically. I love so many of the characters, but my favorite is probably Loid Forger.

Master spy Twilight is unparalleled when it comes to going undercover on dangerous missions for the betterment of the world. But when he recieves the ultimate assignment - to get married and have a kid - he may finally be in over his head!

Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn't know is that the wife he's chosen is an assassin and the cihld he's adopted is a telepath!

Hell's Paradise

I'm not joking when I say this manga is about a man who loves his wife. It's literally what drives the entire story. My favorite character, Gabimaru, is the main character. His whole motivation is that he wants to lead a domestic life with his wife. It's just a really interesting story with really good art.

Gabimaru the Hollow is one of the most vicious assassins ever to come out of the ninja village of Iwagakure, He's ruthlessly efficient, but a betrayal results in him being handed a death sentence. he has only one hope - in order to earn his freedom, he must travel to a long-hidden island and recover an elixir that will make the shogun immortal. Failure is not an option. On this island, heaven and hell are just a hair's breadth away.

Durarara!!

Okay this is KIND OF cheating? It's mainly light novels, with anime and manga adaptations. But I've always loved the anime, it's always held a special place in my heart as one of the first anime I was SUPER into. I'm counting it here because I have a soft spot for it, okay? Okay. ♥

My favorite character is Shizuo. I couldn't tell you why, I just think he's neat. :o)

Ikebukuro, where Tokyo's wildest characters gather!!

A boy who daydreams about the extraordinary. A naive stalker girl. The strongest Ikebukuro. A shut-in doctor with questionable credentials. A hedonistic informant...and the "headless rider" astride a pitch-black motorcycle!?

As their paths cross, this eccentric cast weaves a twisted, cracked love story...
